Street dancers step into top ten

A street dance group from Haverfordwest has stepped their way into the British top ten.

Prestine from Sir Thomas Picton School competed against the best 40 street dance crews in the country at the recent 2nd United Dance Organisation British Schools Finals held at Blackpool's Grand Theatre.

Grandezza Aburido, Naomi Pearce, Monique Parsley, Elinor Crane, Robyn Bergson, Kim Tiglao, Angela Manalaysay and Eleri Buck were placed 8th - narrowly missing out on a top seven placing by 0.25 of a mark.

The girls qualified for the UK final after coming third in the Welsh Schools Finals last May.

Prestine were formed after taking part in 5x60 after school dance sessions organised by Sport Pembrokeshire - the sports development arm of Pembrokeshire County Council.

5x60 Officer Matt Freeman said the group thoroughly deserved their recognition.

"They worked extremely hard in preparation for the competition practicing two or three times a week as part of the ever expanding 5x60 Scheme at the school," he said. "They choreographed their own routine and performed exceptionally well on the day."

He added that the Year 11- 13 girls also help encourage street dance both among younger pupils at Sir Thomas Picton and also among pupils at Prendergast Primary School.
