Young apprentices set up stall

Budding young Pembrokeshire entrepreneurs showed off their talents at the fourth Pembrokeshire Enterprise Fair this month.

Designed to encourage youngsters between the ages of five and 25  to plan and run business enterprises for real, the three-day event  was held at the Riverside Shopping in Haverfordwest.

More than 70 groups from schools and youth clubs - and even individuals with a good idea - were given the chance to showcase their wares to the public.

The array of homemade goods and services on offer included

homemade pasta sauce, bird boxes, badges, Welsh cakes, fitness video, pots and plants, tie-dye t-shirts, recycled goods; digital pictures. CD clocks, party bunting, re-usable eco-bags, individualised wanted posters, craft kits, dream-catchers, drift wood mobiles, mobile phone socks, handmade candles, calendars, body scrubs and lotions, and jewellery

Each group was responsible for developing their idea, marketing the product and managing money for real with any profit being recycled back to the school or club to be used to resource similar creative activities.

Many of the schools worked closely with business partners to develop their business skills - from help with sponsorship to product development.

Councillor Huw George, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, who attended the event, said the youngsters had worked hard and with great enthusiasm.

"Together they produced a diverse range of products and made a colourful and impressive impact on Haverfordwest town centre over the three days," he said.

"The youngsters are learning year on year how to improve their products. It is great to see young people with drive and enthusiasm."

The event was sponsored by Murco, which provided cash prizes for the top three businesses on each of the three days.  The best ideas and entrepreneurial skills were recognised by Business Award Certificates.
