Flyers Dive In for Charity

Nineteen young swimmers dived in for a charity Swimathon at Fishguard pool earlier this month.

The youngsters from the Fishguard Flyers club raised funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The young swimmers swam either 1.5km, 2km or 5km in the 25m pool for the charity.

The first swimmer to reach 1.5km (60 lengths) was 10-year-old Rhiannon Mason in 31.54 minutes.

Twelve year old Lily Mather completed 2.5km (100 lengths) in 52.50 minutes.

Meanwhile four swimmers took on the 5km (200 lengths) challenge with 12 year-old Carys Thomas finishing in 1hr 15.30mins.

The youngest swimmer was nine year old Niamh Mason who completed 1.5km in 47.42 mins.

Fishguard Flyers are part of Pembrokeshire County Swimming.

Pembrokeshire swimming development coach Paul Dowey congratulated the Flyers for their efforts and thanked parents and staff at the leisure centre for their support.

"It's great to see swimming clubs get behind the popularity of the Swimathon and join the public in generating money for a good cause," he said.
